i was told by some mechanic that side draught webbers could not be fit into the gemini engine bay (specificaly twin carbs) is he talking out his butt? can it be done with shorter socks or something? and as im new, how common is it to get a inlet manifold for the 1600 gem? and bout how much would they cost?

p.s. what are the best down draught options if side draught not possible?

Sidedraughts do fit but you need an 'S' shaped intake manifold to lift the carbies above the vacuum brake booster. The brake fluid reservoirs of post TX cars will be in the way necessitating the installation of a remote reservoir. This can be accomplished by either exchanging the master-cylinder AND brake booster from a TX (which had the remote) or having a plate engineered to fit your current master-cylinder. Use the search function to find extra posts on this. I would expect to pay about $350 for carbs and manifold. There are better/less painful options like single webbers or dual IDFs that others know more about. I'll shutup now and leave it to them!

Fuck side drafts. By the time you finished screwing around with s bend manifolds etc your probably going to end up with better flow with a pair of IDF down drafts anyway and they bolt on with out modifying anything. Even easier to bolt on than the stock manifold.
