Don't get confused between octane rating and energy content. Octane rating is an indexed measure of a substance's propensity to detonate. It's called Octane rating because it's indexed to the detonation properties of pure octane which is given an arbitrary rating of 100. But if you burn equal masses of lpg and petrol, you will get a smaller energy yield from the lpg. |
