Im getting the stuff together at the moment to do the boot on the TE. Before you do anything you need to get the aproppriate measurements ie, bottom, back, sides and front if you decide to have one, so you can make a cutting list. That way if you dont want to cut the wood yourself you can hand your local cabinet maker the cutting list and say cut it to these dimensions. Once youve got your docked MDF together, dummy fit it in the boot and make any changes to achieve a snug fit. Theres a few ways i can think of fixing the components together. You need to fix the boards together and to the car itself. You can buy pre made brackets from a hardware store, simple L shape brackets are perfect. You can use these to fix the bottom to the car, you could also bolt into the rails. For fixing the boards together use PVA if you want a permanent fixture with brackets as wel, or just brackets if you want to take it apart again in future. Here you could use either small L brackets again, or you could buy a long length of L shaped bracket from somwehre, look around, just like a small bracket except metres wide if you know what i mean(usually alloy). Cut this to the length of your base and back or sides. Drill pilot holes in the brcket for screws(use self tapping MDF screws) then counter sink with a larger bit. You could just screw the bracket on the inside angle of the 2 boards or you could router a rebate into the board so the bracket sits flush with the board. thats it, then carpet
Fuck thats a long post, hope it helps cause you may never see an effort like that again in a long time |

make sure you support the middle of you boot base well, if you lay MDF over the 2 chassis rails in the bottom of the boot with no support between them, it might sag, this happened to my first attempt, also, use good thick MDF |

I would lean toward marine ply myself. Because it has multidirectional layering it tends to be more rigid than MDF, theres also the moisture factor which unless you have a totally sealed moisture free boot is a definite advantage. |
