Attach a wire with a fuse (the book tells what amp) to the memory on the head unit (again the book will tell you which one it is).
and then what do i do to it? i found a constant wire, turned out to be the headlights, and the stezz wouldnt work with the lights of, only worked with the lights on.
can i wire a lead from the memory lead on the head to the battery with a fuse? what sort of fuse? what gauge wire? same shit as whats in the cabin? i have 15a fuses that i got today, will they work.
where do u live? |

It should explain it a little better than that in the instructions, although cheap and nasty units can have very crap instructions.
The memory lead on the head unit should be wired to a perminant source of power. If you can't find a live wire with the key in the 'lock' position with one of those test lights, then run a wire directly from the battery (but use an inline fuse as close as possible to the battery). It doesn't need to be heavy gauge, as it is only for the memory and not actual operation of the unit. 15A fuse would be too high, a 10A would probably be sufficient.
Hope that helps

you must use a test light! if you dont have one buy one (about $5 from an asian shop) try to find your constant as close to where the deck is going, make sure its fused. im an installer and ive seen so many people run there constants to the battery or the key barrel without a fuse and end up with there cars having engine bay fires and dash fires. if you must run a wire make shure it clears moving parts eg; heater control arms, steering colum, brake pedals ect. goodluck, if you hit a brickwall go see your local installer (auto-elecs use to many scotch-locks). |

fuck? serious? damn it, i've got about 6 15A fuses sitting on my drivers seat saying *use me, use me* how would i wire em? they are the little glass tube kind, is that ok, or do they need to be the plastic ones? also, someone said the closer to the fuse is to the battery the better. is this true? so where in the engine bay would i put it? do i just strip the end's of the wires and connect them to the fuse, and keep it on with a bit of tape? i don't have a solderor or know anyone who has. then how does it connect to the battery?
fuck i'm an electrical newbie, i had no worrys wiring up the speakers and all that shit, i play guitar so i'm sweet with speakers and channels and shit
fuckin newbies
thanks heaps |

General wiring colours.
Fat chunky black = antennae (obvious once seen)
Earth = black
Constant battery = yellow
Ignition = red
White = electric antennae (optional)
that is mostly the wire colours but some gems are different, and they should be easy to find |

Sorry about that, The memory wire goes dirrectly to the battery, so you have to feed a wire through the rubber grommet into the engine bay and connect it to the battery, you can get an inline fuse holder from a car shop(autobarn, supercheap etc.) and have that in the wire to the battery. 10A should be OK (mine had 8A) |

hey man, if you have a glass fuse 10amp or 15 just go to autobarn or any autoshop and buy a plastic fuse holder. U can get it for a glass fuse or a plastic fuse shouldn't cost ya ova 5bux. It comes with one wire into fuse and one wire out of the fuse so u can connect one end straight to ya battery and the other end to your head unit memory wire (yellow). To wire it up, like i said b4 just have the fuse rite near the battery to hold it there just cable tie it with another wire thats already there. And 10amp sounds ok but ur head units instructions should tell ya what amp rating is used. Mine runs of a 3amp glass fuse. ANd I defintely dont recomend just taping the wires onto the fuse, thats what causes fires. spend a bit of money and u wont need to spend anymore in da long run.
cheers hope that helps |

Here's the thing... your constant power wire is a backup for your memory and clock and is not a big current draw.
Let's say the wire is rated a 5 amps, and you put a 15 amp fuse in line. If 12 amps gets drawn through that wire, you'll melt the wire because you haven't drawn more than the fuse rating!! Usually you'll get a dead short from not putting the wire through a grommet in the firewall so you'll melt the wire AND blow the fuse.
Cheers, Yonnee. |
