does 4X100 mean that it will be 100mm from the centre of 1 of the holes to the centre of the hole next to it?

no, 100mm between one stud and the one opposite that stud, not the one next to it. |

4 is how many studs, or stud holes, the wheel has.
100 is the PCD (Pitch Circle Diameter) If you drew a circle that passed through the centre of each stud, this would be 100mm in diameter.
So Commodore being 5x120 or 5/120, has 5 studs and the circle through the middle of the studs is 120mm.
Falcon being 5/114.3 again has 5 studs with hole centres of 114.3mm or 4.5", and so on and so forth. |
