I thought the leading cause of clutch shudder was oil on the clutch?

Clutch shudder means your clutch is not in good nick. If shudder is coming from your driveline, its not clutch shudder.

Did you use a torque wrench to do up the pressure plate? Can you feel it pulsate through the pedal when engaging the clutch? Was the flywheel machined?

Yeah I bet he bought a new clutch and did not get the flywheel machined, so no the clutch plate is only gripping on the new pressure plate and not the flywheel, that would be why you have clutch shudder, only solution is to take it all backout and get the flywheel machined.

also you clutch will not last as long as it should due to excessive where on the pressure plate side.

Just stick a big screwdriver in the ring gear on the flywheel. Think you should be able to fit a flathead through one of the bolt holes which will keep it in place. Not the best way of doing it but it works.
