I have had tooo many of them. Dont ever start a project car unless you are prepared to have a nervous breakdown along with developing some rather large veins in your forhead. All I have had is trouble with everything. And the car isnt even running yet.

We went to start it today and it turns over, and the pumps come on, fuel gets to the rail. But from there nothing happens. The plugs were dry so i dont know if the injectors are spraying, and the spark check had no spark. All I want to hear is my turbo spooling.
AARRRGGHHH...
Dont know what to do now. Start again tomorrow i guess.

take the injectors out, point them into some clear jars, and crank it over to see if they fill the jars.
if they dont fill the jar, throw some other injectors in to see if they work. if they dont, its most probably your wiring.

as for the spark, take each plug out and crank it over, check for spark. if every plug doesnt get spark, connect a plug to the coil lead and crank it to see if its getting spark to the disributor. if its sparks, your dizzy it facked, if not its most probably your wiring or timing

Sounds like a computer problem loz, especially if comp controls spark and fuel. what sort of computer, does it have diagnostic features, or lights, or something?

Microtech LT8. Had it on the laptop and there were No errors and all signals are correct. I will get back too it today (well now) and see how it goes. Looks like i'll be breaking out the multimeter.

Cheers

Looks like no spark at all. How do i test my ignition module?? The plugs now have a fuel smell on them even though they come out dry. I cant crank it for too long as the battery is flattening pretty quickly. The computer is sending the signal to the module just i think it may stop there. Either that or it is wired up to the module wrongly, which as far as i can see its fine, but am not 100% coz the diagrams dont have my specific module and arent too clear. Anyway back to it.

Well after 3 more hours of testing etc it is still not running and this is what we have found.

When you turn the dizzy and it passes the magnet, a signal is passes through the wires. This leads us to believe the dizzy is fine.

When the ignition is on, there is 12v going to the +ive side of the coil, 12v coming out the -ive, and 12v coming out the coil lead. When it is cranked all drops to 8v.
This would then seem like the coil is fine.

The 2 wires from the dizzy to the computer have continuity and should be taking the signal right to the computer.

The computer is sending the module a pulsing signal when it is cranked.

Cant remember the other things we tested yet but it has been many many hours of testing.

Does it sound like the ignitor is feshnickered?? Im starting to think it might be.

Later.

The obvious thing from all that is that the dizzy is sending signal to the computer, and the computer is outputting signal to the module. Is there an igntion pulse light on the comp box? my MTX8 has one.

If the coil isn't firing, then I would assume that you haven't wired up your comp-module-coil correctly. I have not had a lot of experience with modules, as my comp has them built in, it goes from comp straight to coil. Anyway, usually a module has at least 4 wires, 12 volts, ground, signal in, and signal out, sometimes it has a wire for tacho output.

What about fuel? hook up a 12v light to an injector plug, and see if it lights up. If not, then the injectors aren't firing either. If plugs aren't firing and injectors are, the plugs should come out wet.

on my ems we had to wire the computer up (except the module) and go into the settings and set it for the ems multi-coil module. after setting it up, we then wire the module up.

if you wire the module straight up, it would blow the module if the settings werent correct once given power

maybe a similar thing happened to yours???

Well when it was ordered it was supposed to be pre programmed to suit everything I was running. So hopefully that was right and that didnt happen.
All the other settings that were pre pre programmed have been correct so far. There is just something going wrong with the module wiring or itself. Im still waiting on the microtech people to respond. Hopefully they will soon.
