take the dizzy out again, on the bottom will be a nylon wheel, turn it with your fingers if the rotor turns in the top then the dizzy is probably o.k. and the prob is internal. if it doesn't then put it in your right hand and eject it over your left shoulder and get another one |

While on the subject of distibutors, i helped a mate put a new engine in his TF and converted it from auto to manual.
When we got it running to check compression and timing etc, i found it was only running 4 degrees advance instead of the standard 6 deg. I loosened the retaining plate bolt to advance it some more, but the whole dizzy didn't budge !?!?!?! I completely removed the bolt and plate and it still didn't move after i rocked the whole car by the dizzy. The engine was out of an early model TX with the flat floor-pan - would this have anything to do with not being able to budge it ? I also noticed the dizzy has also been installed 180 deg out, but with the leads in their correct places to counter-act this.
I eventually left it as is due to it not having a problem running. But is there anyone that can shed some light as to why a distributor wont budge a milimetre ? I cant remove it, cant advance it and cant retard it. Maybe the S.O.B has been tack welded into place !?!?!
Any thoughts ?

has the engine ever done a headgasket, the dizzy may be corroded in, i can't think of any other reason for it being stuck. |
