That's the blue one, eh?
Sorry to hear about the bingle.
From what I have gathered she was fuqqed anyways.

Accidents are not good, but you can learn important lessons from them. I learnt to be EXTRA careful on wet greasy roads. I am interested, have you learnt anything from your accident?

Sad to lose one of the Gemini crew, you going over to the rice-boys now? hehe

I dunno, if I mention that I'd like to try and graft an independant rear into the back of a gemini, just as an engineering excersise, you know, do it just to see if I could... People are a little shocked and recognise (as I do) that it will almost certainly never happen, but regardless... it arouses their interest... When I mention that I will soon be buying a CA18 halfcut for a conversion, they think 'this guy is serious about his geminis'.. But when I mention them both and tell them the rear end I am considering is ALSO a silvia rear end. They laugh at me and tell me to go buy a silvia...

Hey Adam,

I read your planning on doing a CA18DET conversion. Just wondering if you could fill me in onwhat needs to be done to get the motor in and engineered. Your help would be much appreciated.

Phil

I wonder if the Datsun 1600/240K rear end could be adapted to suit. A friend of mine is pretty clued up engineering wise, so in years to come we will probably so some stupid things to the humble Gem. Independent rear, some decent grip!

Datsun 1600 rear ends are not a nice design compared to the silvia rear end...

Under the queensland light vehicle modification regulations you just need an approved workshop to sign off on the mod plate... the only issues will be a satisfactory engineering level and possible brake upgrades... plus minor things like an unleaded fuel filler neck etc etc.

I would be thinking 30 years of solid development would do that to a mechanical device Smile

I read an interesting thing in the Herald-Sun Cars guide about independent rears. Last weeks issue was all about the new Monaro (drooooool Smile and it explained the introduction of the Commodore IRS. Joe Kenwright stated that the system was even less satisfactory than the Datsun 1600 IRS!

I kno the humble 1600 will squat and neg camber like mad, and a friend of mine who owned a 97 VT SS told me about it chopping the rears out to the point where getting 5000Km out of a set of tyres was stretching things!

I like the look of the Subaru rear ends from the Impreza, WRX or not, it looks trick.

1600 IRS is so shit i'd rather the original Gemini rear end

VT IRS is ok.. I reckon your mate was doing too many burnouts! my parents' VT tyres lasted 40,000k's

Yeah, struts, twin lateral parallel links and a trailing arm (from memory)... probably the next best thing to dbl wishbones. I've got a british mag of a rover 200 (about the size/shape/style of a daewoo lanos 2 door hatch) with a subaru rear end, ford type 9 (escort) gearbox and a vauxhall twin cam 16 valve ecotec 4 cylinder... the level of engineering and quality of workmanship on this car is something to truly respect. I just dug through my magazine collection but couldn't find it to scan in...
