He Peoples, Well its over for the Te Tremini. I went to regency park today( for others not in the know this is car hell= RTA) The gem had to be stripped of all its goodies weber, ramflow air filter, emission controls fitted and exhaust fitted anouther muffler. Went to regency wth a defect for "exhaust noise" came home with ive other defects. They include fucked ignition switch, key size rust in the floorplan (in one fucking place what a joke), key size rust in the firewall, Radiator support panel dented 5cm x 5cm9 (oh my god), but must of all the rear parcel shelf has to be replaced due to the child seat achorage points being cut out. (this is a complete joke the cut out are would be no bigger than 5cm and it was becase I had to put the magnets of my 6 x 9s in. So total damage equals approx $600-$700. So I am going to build up a TD Gem with all my parts of the TE, but this time it will have a series 5 13B Rotary with T04 turbs totally legal so I can fuck of the regency fagots. Born to be annoyed by Regency!!!! Tremini in a TD |

mate!!!! i know how u feel, i had a mad te gem, just all got built and re sprayed, first day i drove it it got a big fat cannary on the window, wasnt even on the road for an hour, regency job, was i pissed. got out of the cops sight and lit a burnout till the tyres blew, fuck em. i had just poured about $6000 into it to have it on the road for an hour. i sold that car minus the runninggear for $400. so now im building a fukn maddddd gem, 12a exendport turbo ( but want a 20b eventually) and i got a heap of plates for it so screw those pigs. also did u know in japan they dont have defects? the way it sould be!!!!!!!
now gettin back to changing the laws, if enough people start making an uproar, signing petitions, contacting members of parliment even getting on current affair shows and voicing your opinion things will start to happen! i propose that the laws should be changed to accomodate modified cars, ie special rego for modified cars and no more bullshit defects like 2 low and shit, they can get fuked if they think that it makes a car dangerous, if u stick to the speed limit this shouldnt be a problem!!!!!!
we also need an online petition, i know of atleast 100 people who would sign it. lets start making shit happen.
also if you think that you hard done by by the cops make a formal complaint, by rights a cop isnt allowed to pull over a car or defect it unless the driver has done something wrong, and if he pig or she pig says your car is to low/ loud etc. get them to measure it and if they dont complain, know your rights!!!!!!! i dont know how many times i have got away without a defect cause i keep asking them what i have done wrong, if they cant answer tell em to get fucked, if u r being followed pull into someones driveway and get out of the car, on private propety the pigs cant do shit.
neway if im raving to much its just because i hate cops and ill do ne thing in my power to fuck them off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tough luck, feel sorry for those who have genuinely spent $$ on a car only to have it defected.
You raise a few issues that get me wondering.
Firstly you state that you had spent $6k on yours, and now you have gotten rid of that car for next to nothing, only to build a car which by rights will be just as illegal.
Unless it is done right...
I wonder where your hard earnt money was spent on that car for it to be so unroadworthy you pawned it off.
In Japan they replace engines every 2 years. Could you please point me to a website at least where it says they don't have defects? What do they do instead?
To the laws, they are put in place for sensibility, for yours and every motorists safety. I agree some laws are ridiculous, or more correctly, some laws need their specs reworked.
There is such a thing as too low. There are such as too wide tyres, little brakes and too much rust.
Sticking to the speed limit won't mean jack if your car is dangerous, trust me on this one...
Saying a petition will fix things is wrong. We are a minority in the eyes of the law, but we are a thorn in their side, therefore they come down hard on us.
The boys in blue are not looking in the right places half the time. The number of sh!tboxes I see on the roads which aren't modified, but run down heaps of crap, amazes me.
I agree, if the boys come down on your ass for no apparent reason, you have every right to lodge complaint.
The blue boys should have the necessary equipment to test vehicles, or they should have a clue regarding some mods. They are only following the rules they are given.
I am not sure cops are only allowed to pull us over when we have done wrong. Listening to a scanner will reveal licence and vehicle checks, as well as roadworthies. If this is law, and written in statute, then complain, and I will sign it as well.
I see a few cars in my area with occasional canaries. These cars appear modified, I have seen them, and they are far from safe. They deserve to be taken off the road because whatever mods were done, they weren't done right.
Whatever you do, your right is to abide by the law.
Sad as it is.
Cheers |

benjamin does make some good points. and lets face it, you would be the first one screaming blue murder if some fukr rammed up your ass and ruined your nice new paintjob because his standard datsun 1200 breaks couldnt stop the 2l turbo under the bonnet in time. the laws are too harsh i agree, but they do stop a lot of dangerous people from being on the road.
dangerous people that potentially could have a crash and kill your mum, or girlfriend, or aunt... |

i dont agree with the laws in western austraila buti agree that they ae in place to safe guard everyone from dickheads and ppls who dont look after there cars.
And yes some mods are illegal (and dangerous) for some serious resaon like cut springs, welded diffs, oil leaks, too small steering wheels, loud sorst and leaky sorst, wide tyres on car not designed for them, having too much grunt in car wif standard brakes.
I have been pulled three times now and i see them as a helping hand not a hinderance in hindsight. They help me understand what i need to maintain my gemini. But seelling it for having some minor defects is just stupid.
yes there are asshole coppers. i had one the day after i got my last defect notice off. he went over my car even after i showed him the paper saying my car was road worthy. It had just been on the road for two days and he was gonna slap a yellow on it again.
If a peteion came up and was put on the net i would sign it as i can not see how a cop can say that is illegal but the rta say that is fine??? |

Benjamin has brought up some good points. I have built a $17 000 TG Gemini which in my opinion looks pretty tough. And what I love about it even more is that all the modifications I have done are totally legal. There is nothing on the car which is illegal. And it shits the cops like nothing else. They hate it cause they pull me over, go over the car but can't find anything to get me for. It pays to modify your car correctly, cos you win in the end! |

sorry, im not disputing that some mods are downright dangerous, but if they r done properly well thats another story. i dont know what the story is in other states but in sa you get a regency defect for having a webber on your car or no heat shield thingy on your exhaust manifiold
my car got defected for:
to low (proper lowered springs 2.5 inch lowered at back 2 at front)
to loud ( tested at exhaust shop, it was a little to loud but not by much, 98dB)
engine didnt comply with ADR's ( to lumpy, webbers, extractors, no heat thing on exhaust)
bald tyres at back (ill give em that 1 )
blinkers flashing to fast (not by much, it wasnt that fast)
wheels to big ( 17inch )
back seat with roll cage ( not legal for safety reasons )
what the coppas didnt know was that the car was very safe though, it had piazza turbo brakes and was seam welded the whole way though not to mention the roll cage.
i think there was more but i cant remember it was a while ago, and when i say i got $400 for the car that was less motor, gearbox, exhaust, wheels, roll cage etc, just the body.
the sad part was with the money i got for that car i went and brought a crappydore, what a waste of money.
also cops arent mechanics, they dont have the qualifications, rta is a different story, but cops???????
oh well now ill have a rotor gem, ive a heap of plates, but eventually i want it engineered. |

I think you'll find it hard to engineer a 13b turbo as the restriction as far as I know on turbo geminis is a 2.4 litre, as a 13b is classed as a 2.6, good luck anyway. |
