there were some extras on the sandpipers which included cloth interior instead of vinyl, they were also available in the TE body style. The little birds you are referring to are seagulls |

I dont know what sandpipers you are all looking at. Havent seen a TD but I know 2 people with TE's. Both are really basic, no options, brown vinyl interiors, no taco dash's, not even a clock, havent seen one with a 5 speed. I thought that they were like a special budget version. All the very basics. The only good thing (with TE's) is their chrome bumper which doesnt have the plastic strip though the middle and is straight chrome. They also have a very rare TE type grill with round headlights!! |

not all of them have the round headlights - ive got a front TE grill from a sandpiper (totaly black; no chrome paint around lights). These sandpipers also have a boot release switch thingy and a left rear view mirror.
i just saw a TE wagon with origional side mirror controls - how rare are these???? |

This is the thing my Gemini History will clear up.
The TC Sandpiper was a special edition model which included:
Sandpiper decals on the sedan rear doors or rear quarter flanks on coupes - the picture is a bird - a sandpiper, strangley enough
They came with the Fashion Pack interior, which was indeed funk-arse tartan.
They included the stainless steel strip across the front edge of the bonnet that was also available on all TDs except the panelvan and base sedan - no other TCs had this strip.
Grill and headlight surrounds were black, not grey
The DID NOT include a 5-speed, because NO Gemini prior to the TD had a 5-speed. If it's got a 5-speed, it's been fitted after the fact.
None of them had tachometers.
In the case of the TE model Sandpiper II, much of the same stuff was included - not tartan but cloth seats, no tacho still - they're not a budget model, but fell above the Gemini SL but below the SL/X in trim levels. TEs did NOT have the base-model round headlight front.
That's the guts of it. When the History is online (more dramas involved in it's birth that you could ever imagine) then all you'll need to do is check it out. It's right.
Cheers,
Dave |

Sorry, I didn't make myself fully clear.
You're right, the Sandpiper was the TC and the Sandpiper II was the TE, but when I said that the TC Sandpiper had the chrome strip (across the bottom edge of the bonnet) that was eventually offered on the TD model, I meant on ALL TD models (Gemini SL, Gemini SL/E, Gemini SL/X, Gemini wagon) except the base models (Gemini sedan and Gemini panelvan).
Sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound like there was a TD Sandpiper, because I know (as do you) that there wasn't one.
Cheers,
Dave |
