Fix the Gem....Fix the Gem....Fix the Gem....
You dont say how old you are but I guess you dont have a licence yet.
The car your mum "drowned" shouldn't be too hard to fix and it's always better to find a car you know a bit about its history. Sounds like a good start for gaining driving experience in a car that's not as big and bulky as the Torry or the Dore, and is a car that, without spending a fortune, can be made to go hard, handle, and stop. Parts are still readily available, as is advice you can get from here. Creature comforts for long drives can always be added such as a nice stereo, cruise control, more comfortable seats, etc.
As for the V6, it can, and has been done but not a cheap conversion. As for the straight six, ask Adam!! *grin*
There is a conversion kit for it, but it was for the Jackeroo or Rodeo with the 'G' series motor.
Good luck,
Yonnee. |

G180 and G200 straight bolt in fit but getting a little rare.
I work for autObarn and we fit cruise aftermarket. Not that expensive. A/C on the other hand is like trying to find a virgin prostitute. (sorry ladies) They're very few and far between, but they are around. Lot of work to retrofit, but doable. In fact I know where there is one at the moment. Also try putting a wanted add in the 'for sale' section.

|

hello, i realise this is not my conversation. my TG slx gemini came with air-conditioning on the stock 1600, i gave this to a friend as i wasnt keen for the power drop of any 'unnecessary' ancillaries. incidently he got it re-gased etc. and on a hot brisbane day it would freeze your rocks off due to the small cabin space of the gemini. from memory the kit consisted of a compressor (mounted off the block on the drivers side), a small tank (mounted by a bracket to holes which exist on the front section of the drivers side shock tower, a small radiator and electric fan (in front of engine radiator), the square sealed unit which replaces the large plastic pipe running from the fan unit on the firewall to the horizontal section on the firewall on the drivers side, associated piping to connect these. i believe the airconditioning was activated by the standard slide controls and fan speed. there werent any dramas in converting this onto a TF gemini that previously didnt have air-conditioning, the only one being the requirement of a 'double pulley' on the crankshaft in order to drive the compressor, these seem to be accessable as the motors i have possessed have had these fitted. if you struggle to find air-conditioning out of/for a gemini have a look at the engine bay of an early 80's jackeroo/rodeo as these might be the same/ adaptable, as the 1800 and 2 litre ive had have had the double cranshaft pulley which would indicate the use of the air-conditioning compressor. i would imagine air-conditioning would have been a common fitment to jackeroos due to their 'family car' type nature. i can probably track down and scan a clear photo of an air-conditioning equiped engine bay, and while not being a full computer nerd im sure i could work out how to send this to anyone interested. |

Dave, could you really afford me sweetie!!!! As for the hooker, they all have to start somewhere. As for the A/C, it's in an early model up the road from me. $$$?? Don't know yet, what's it worth to ya? You'll have to get the KE30 off its roof to get to it but... From what I can see of it, the A/C is mostly complete, I'll find out more.

Just as an indication, last yr or so i picked up the condenser, dryer, evaporator box, wiring, in dash stuff and all piping, bolts and pulleys, oh and the compressor for a TE aircon system. (same dash as TD) It set me back $200 from a wrecker. Ofcourse u'll fit new hoses, dryer etc etc. but that should be a ball park figure. between 150 and 250. |

Mate at the moment I can't afford a free one!! But things should improve shortly. It sucks how everything I want costs money - yet everything I have people want for free!!
Anyway - do some snoopin up your street and scam it as cheap as you can get it. Put your price on your effort and time to get it out and let me know how much - by email of course!!
B.T.W. I'm in the Sunmmernutts Capital - where are you?? |
