Hi, I have a strange problem with my gem when the weather is hot, and would appreciate any sugestions as to the cause.
Its an 1980 TE, auto. On days when the temp is 25C or above and the cars been in the sun all day, the engine 'stalls' as soon as load is put on, it, i.e. driving up just a slight hill. Most of the time the motor restarts. The problem keeps occuring for about 5-10 mins then goes away completely.
Any ideas??

Hmmm, just a thought... vapour lock in the fuel line? Also the fuel pump relays have been known to give trouble. Had similar problem years ago, fitted aftermarket electric pump, around $100.
Anyone else?

Ok... part your car in the sun on a really hot day... in one of those situations where you KNOW it would normally have that problem... then before you drive off, open the fuel filler cap and close it again... now drive off, you should have no problems. |

Blocked evaporative emissions controls causing pressure build up in the tank I believe. |

Hey guys, thanks for the tips so far. I'll try the fuel filler tip. But is it at all possible a carby or vacuum loss due to a crack somewhere?

dont you guys no that when fuel is heated in the sun it expands this could still cause pressure locks but highly unlikely |

Yes, I do know that it expands... Try what I suggested and if I works, either offer an alternate explanation or STFU. |

As far as I know, Adam holds a fair amount of knowledge about Geminis - probably more than most people here and possibly more than the rest of mankind put together, so I take whatever he says as gospel.
Ignore his advice if you must..... but at your peril. |
