Does anyone know if a factory electronic distributor from an efi engine will fit a g series SOHC engine.

If so, is there a dizzy available with 4 terminals, one for:

trigger
home
power
ground

I would imagine that a normal electronic dizzy that could be used with a carbed engine for example will only have two wires coming from the sensor.

Thanks guys.

Burnoutville?? Is that near Timbuctoo or Kingdom Come?

To answer the first part, not that I know of.
My dissy guy is going to make me one electronic dissy from two. I give him my old gemini one and a Bluebird Series 2 Electronic and some Charlie ASH, and I get an electronic distributor for my race car. He suggested the Bluebird because; 1) it spins the right way, 2) its ECM is part of the dissy, only two wires to hook up, 3) there's alot of scope for further modifying that dissy as you do more work to the motor. Can't lose.

Thanks, but I need one with 4 connections for my computer, this will allow direct fire ignition (4 ignition coils).

I've been looking at a TP/TS magna one, but I dont think the disk will fit inside the gemmy dizzy, might have to go the crank angle sensor.

Ben, I recall using an Opto spark optical igition kit which you can fit the pickup and disk to gemini's quite easily, I'm not quite sure but I think it had 4 wires from the pickup to the box?, may be an idea to look into anyway, what brand of computer are you trying to use.

Cheers

I am using a Microtech MTX8, the type of sensor I need would be from ECM managed cars with multiple coils, one of the wires is a home signal to let the computer know not only when to fire, but which cylinder is firing, just like crank angle sensors do.

thanks for the info, but it would probably safe to bet that if it had more than 2 wires, they would be a power and ground. From memory, the opto sparks are simply for replacing points, and therefore dont need extra features.

It will physically fit but the output is two wires from a hall sensor.

It essentially counts the revs and not cylinder position, for that you'll need a sensor on the flywheel.

If used with a carbed engine, it'll still need an igniter to control dwell. They come with mechanical advance and vacuum advance built in, but is easily disabled for efi use.

I think I'll go the carnk angle sensor, I got a new disk for $30, and the sensor is only around $40, the only tricky bit is fitting the disk to the crank pulley, and making a bracket for the sensor.

Not to hard thankfully as the Gem has the removable front collar on the crank if you can get the big centre bolt undone,
But it all comes down to the position of the sender,

much cheaper then dizzy's

Good luck,

Cheers,
