Calling all Adelaideans.
Me and Ross (DOHC) have recently discussed the possibility of putting together an Isuzu Car Club for South Australia. Basically, we don't wish to join the Gemini Car Club and there aren't any other clubs around.
Furthermore, we wish to get the club CAMS affiliated if it is at all possible, and hopefully join in the Mallala Supersprints as run by the Marque Sports Car Assocation. At the moment, I am a member of the Sprite Car Club (my girlfriend has an MG Midget/Sprite) and Ross is a member of the Nissan Datsun Club - yet we both race Geminis.
Obviously, anything Isuzu-related would be able to join, including Belletts, 117s, Florians, Geminis, Rodeos and later RB-JT-style Geminis, although we would like to keep it to RWD and AWD cars, rather than Jackaroos and Fronteras and shit like that.
But to do all that, a club has to be properly incorporated or whatever it is, and has to have monthly meetings with minutes, a president, secretary and treasurer and have an annual general meeting - all the boring stuff that happens between driving cars.
What I wanna know is - how many people would seriously be serious about putting some effort into this? How many people would join a club with fees and is this a worthwhile venture.
I'm sure we could convince the Bellett Club to join us, because they're not even a club - just a bunch of people who know each other.
It's this sort of club that's needed to promote the longevity of the Gemini - I remember that only 5 years ago, the paper was full of TD coupes and the occasional van - now we're lucky to see a handful of Geminis each week, and they're all dungerish - the marque needs help!
Will you lend a hand? Who's seriously interested? |
