Nego,
No Geminis came with a 1.8, although I'm not sure what the displacement was in the Diesel....!
Most G180 engines fitted to Geminis would have come from a similar era Rodeo, although a couple may have lobbed into the country in Isuzu Florians - they might have only had the G161z, I'm not sure.
G180s are a fine swap as they bolt straight in, no questions asked. Also, they are good for boring out to 2.0 as the engine is a square engine and has a great powerband. I had a bog-stock G180 in my old van, but as it was getting very long in the tooth, I replaced it (well, the whole car, actually) with a G161z with a ported head, extractors, 2" and a Weber carby and it goes harder than the old 1800cc - so it would go even harder if you did that to the G180! The main difference I noticed was the torque. I had a drag with a mate with a 1600cc and Weber and it was dead even (like I said - it was getting old) but my mate noticed when he drove it that although it was no faster, it would probably cope better with a load in the back (dead bodies, politicians etc) |
