Totally straight forward, absolutely simple, all you need is a 5 speed, a 5 speed tailshaft, speedo cable, flywheel, clutch, a manual pedal box, a clutch cable, an angle grinder, a manual centre console, and some wire to hook up the reverse lights.
To do a proper job you should also get a decent (3mm thick) plate welded over the original shifter hole and also surround the new hole with 3mm plate to ensure body stiffness, but that is only important if you want to be legal. If you want to be a shoddy bastard, cover the old hole in duct tape and paint over it with bog and/or sound deadening tar.
No matter how limited your budget, while you have the chance, get the flywheel lightened (as much as possible) and balanced, it is worth the money. Also if you take the engine out use that as an excuse to fit a new rear main seal. |

One important thing to remember when converting from auto to manual is to remove the inhibitor switch. The switch is used with auto to make sure you can't start them in gear. It is located in the shift mechanism from memory. The switch will have to be cut out and the wiring soldered together. |

This is going to massively undermine my half hearted attempts to secure my gertrude from theft, but oh well, the wiring for the inhibitor switch is a perfect opportunity for a starter motor kill switch, I know, I used it, just buy a 12 volt switch from autobarn and hide it wherever you darn well want. |

Professionally, no freakin idea, I would say $800+ minimum, but as I said, I have no idea whatsoever.
Well if I was being timed I reckon two mates and I could get it done in under three hours...
No more than a weekends work, probably a day if you aren't as lazy as I am. I can talk you through it more or less step by step, it really isn't too hard, although my estimate of $200 is going to be too low, I forgot to include the cost of a new clutch kit, make it $300. I apologise for any inconvenience my oversight may have caused. |
