Hi All,
Im thinking of buying new extractors for my Td Coupe because I still have the original ones fitted so I think its about time to replace them.My question is what performance benefits do new extractors have (if any) and which is the best brand out there
thanks

Extractors will definitely make more power, but you will get a better deal from the exhaust place if you bite the bullet and upgrade the entire system in one hit, 2 inch exhaust with a set of extractors, just over $300 or so from memory, but really don't quote me, it is 1:30am after all. |

Another cheaper alternative (although the $300 is well worth it) is to fit a TX manifold which runs 4-2-1 rather than the TC onwards 4-1, which is crap. It breathes a lot easier, but the full extractors to just as good a job, look better under the bonnet and when connected to a good 2", sound great too! |

Yep, $45 for TX manifold, I have one (see my photos) and was quoted $70 to add it to my current stocko system, or about $50 to have attached if I bought a full two inch.
However I am broke so I am going to buy a two inch from daves gemini spares and weld it up myself. |

I race in the qld gemini rally series, and while my car now runs a 2litre with twin webbers, it used to compete in the 1600 series with a fully balanced but standard motor, and you had to run a standard manifold. I gained an extra 5 hp at the wheels from using the TX manifold with long secondary 2" pipes into a 21/2 system over the standard manifold. The rules then changed and allowed us to run extractors, and I gained a further 4hp at the wheels by changing to genie tri-y extractors and then an extra 4hp again by later changing to pacemaker tunedlength 4 into 1s. They have a 21/2 inch collector, and are worth about $240 new, but are by far the best extractors you can buy off the shelf for a gemini.
So to answer your question, fully ported tx manifold with custom tuned length secondaries, and I only gained 5hp at the wheels and it set me back a week of cleaning and porting and nearly $100 to make the secondaries. For $240 dollars I gained an extra 13hp at the wheels. Well worth the extra money. |

My $45 included the secondaries, check the photos.

For a piece of irrelevant trivia check the last name of the navigator who won the 1990 gemini QLD rally series, that'll be my father. Or for that matter the driver, Rod Dawson, that'll be my uncle. It is a small small world. |
