Just wondering what the deal is with the 3rd gear ratio in my 5 spd??? Seems like when I take off hard 1st winds out good, Then rev 2nd out to about the same as 1st and then when I het 3rd my rev drop down too much??? Anyone else noticed this? It's not such a bad thing, Just a sham they could have had closer ratios between 2nd and 3rd...

I am not sure which box you have, but mine has a slightly lower 1st than the 4spd boxes, meaning a bigger jump to 2nd. The gap from 2nd to 3rd is good and doesn't drop my revs that much, probably 750rpm or so (can't confirm, no tacho).

I like 3rd, it is right in the meat of the power and you can tootle from 50kmh through to about 120kmh if your engine is flexible enough.

Maybe your engine is a bit low on torque Josh, and it can't pull itself out of a hole? Mine used to be like that with 1st and 2nd, requiring I rev the tits off her in 1st so I didn't lose drive in 2nd. All fixed now that I have more grunt Smile

Cheers

na he has a early TD box his revs drop as normal but the cam he runs dies in third as most gems do i had this prob and now with new gear in the engine and clutches it will out to about 125 in 3rd but if he is changing gears at 5500 or 5000 you will notice it being sluggish but if he revs it to 6000 when the cam stops working the car will be on the torque curve when he shifts to thrid or fourth

Should be making power before 3500 then, even in third.
