Has more to do with some of the shit that gets posted in here, especially that "Write off" thread. Some people seem to think they can "lunch" all manner of cars by having a slightly modified motor.
lets take a stock pre 1998 Excel, which is today, what the Gemini was in the 70/80's - cheap and common.
Excel weight approx 970 kgs 65 kw motor.
TG Gem weight approx 950 kgs 50 kw motor
the excel will not "lunch" a Gem , but it is quicker. This is what the Autospeed article was on about. Nevertheless, the author is a tool, as a lot of these modern small cars weigh quite a bit.
Lancer = 1275 kgs
WRX/MR2/180SX = approx 1400 kgs!!!! |
