A plea to RB gemini owners - if you read this, please contact me (pransomehince@hotmail.com)so we can swap ideas (and perhaps console ourselves?). Oh - and could other RWD gem owners please keep their helpful suggestions on how to torch and burn FWD geminis etc to themselves??
Update - some people may remember I posted a question months ago (Should I buy that RB?). Costs so far. Car cost $800. New front struts: $134 each and $5 for brake fluid. Rebuild vacuum advance: $60 (includes postage to QLD and back to ACT). New water hoses: $40 (includes heater hoses too). New heater core: $200 (toasty!). I get 9.1L/100Km around town driving and as far as I can tell, it does not use any oil.
There is a little bit of moisture under the valve cover - but none in the crank. My mini used to do the same - so it does not worry me. I worry that the water hoses get really pressurised, but there is no air in the system, and it does not blow any water out of the radiator. The old heater was eaten away by the glycol in the antfreeze/coolant (according to the radiator specialist). On his recommendation, I am only using a corrosion inhibitor and no antifreeze. We have been having -7 C frosts in Canberra, but I admit that the RB is always garaged. Starts everytime - am looking forward to vacuum advance, which is being rebuilt today and should be back friday. All fitting of parts/hoses etc done by myself with modest set of tools. Anybody know where the timing should be set on the 4XC1 motor??
Regards,
Jason. |
