All the time i have owned my genini i have never known what the odd looking piece of metal in the engine bay is...
The thing on the intake side (left) infront of the coil/washer bottle. Its just like a box thats missing two sides and the bottom. It appears to be full of relays and circut breakers and other crap.
Well anyways i have recently berid of just about everything in my engine bay apart from the essenteals, i got rid of that thing and all the wiring as well as a heap of other shit for a use wiring and i cant seem to notice ANY difference at all, everything still works as it used to.
I was curious to see if anyone knows what they are, or the stuff in them |

It's there for exactly what u think it's there for, to hold the relays. but i also took mine out, but put it in a saver place due to water gettin to it so i had to seal it off so no water gets in. I think thats why they made it like that so it was protected from other shit.
who knows really, maybe they were just bored and thought they'd make it. but as for what the relays do, i have no clue haven't gone that far investigating as yet.
cheers. |

Ok Fella's,
the box contains relays for fuel pump and also the ignition relay that increases the ignition voltage when starting from 6-9 to 12 volts directly to the coil and also increases the voltage to the fuel pump and carbi, all to help starting,
Also in it's list of things it does is control the fuel pump. ie. it allows the pump to run when the alternator is turning. so that if you have an accident the the alternator will stop and so will the fuel the is so that the car does not catch fire
there is 2 relays and a resistor that is used. |
