How much would I be looking at for a new rectangular headlight for a 78 TD coupe?

I can't remember the exact price but i think it was about $150+ for each headlight. I have the round ones fitted because i can change the bulbs without getting a new headlight.

However i've since heard you can get a conversion done to the rectangular ones so you can change the bulbs. Anyone have any info on this?

Yeah, definitely swap to round headlights, don't go for sealed beam round ones either, pick up a set of H4 style 7 inch round headlights ($75 each from autobarn or $15 each from Dave's gemini spares), H4 style round headlights are optically superior than any sealed headlight or even H4 style rectangular headlights. Then put in some 130/55 watt bulbs, two relays, two fuses and a partridge in a pear tree, if you want to know how to wire it (ten minute job) then just gimme an ICQ, most of you are on my contact list anyway. (ICQ UIN 40093715)

Sealed Beams would cost you $47 ea to replace or you could convert both lights to a semi sealed kit for $130

Which side is missing? I have a spare TD headlight I had nearly forgotten about.

New Td headlights are about $275 each from rare spares or holden. However , in brisbane, there is a wreckers called Langdons Motor Wreckers in Kedron, who sell Taiwanese replacement parts, and these include Td headlights for $85.
You cannot tell the difference from the originals.

Bugger that for a joke, for $275 I can buy two holden geminis with working TD square lights. For $85 I can buy two semi sealed 7 inch round lights including backing plates and surrounds, a set of 130/55 H4 bulbs, some relays, a wire brush, a can of spraypaint, some wire and some connectors.

the taiwanese ones leak and reflectors dull very quickly - ask anyone who has bought one. Not worth the money. It is possible to remove the bulb and resolder a new bulb in the sealed beam - if you're good with a blowtorch!
