I am a 17 teen year old and the proud owner of a td sandpiper totally stock.....i did very well foe $400 it has a few bumps and scratches but NO rust perfect interior and still the original 60 000 km's on the clock....a 70 year olds car since new.....anyway....of course the 1600 stock motor is gutless so i was looking at upgrading power...i saw the messages for the sohc carby fed turbo and was happy but could that bolt staight in with no other modification to running gear? meaning would the stock gear take the extra power.....
I have roughley $1700 set aside for engine and gearbox....because it has the 3 speed auto still
and also what are your thoughts on rotorary conversions how much $ and how much trouble?
any help would be much appreciated....

Unfortunatly 1700 bucks is not enought to do a good reliable job with a turbo so may I sugest a worked 2 litre (G200). If I havent convinced you and you feel that you must have a turbo then a 4ZC1 is the only way to go

I'm sure it's a good buy - however, the Sandpiper came out as an option pack on the TC. The Sandpiper II came out on the TE. The TD was not offered as a Sandpiper, although the SL/X came close in specification (interior similar, identical wheelcovers, black grille). The Sandpiper had trendy orange and brown pinstripes over the wheel arches and a top sticker/mural of a Sandpiper which is a bird or a brown smudge or both.
