Spigot Bearing

I was thinking about having a crack at replacing my roomies 5 speed gearbox, i know the spigot bearing needs replacing from the asthmatic wheeze it lets off on clutch application.
My question is... Do i need a particular tool to remove and refit a new one ? Or will the trusty old pursuader (HAMMER) do the job ?
I've never removed or refitted a gearbox or clutch, but seeing as though she has lost her licensce and the car is sitting dormant in my garage for the next few months, i thought i'd give it a burl and see where it ends up. I've been through the workshop and searched, and it seems as though it's a simple remove and refit. But i'm a little hesitant that i'm gonna need some sort of particular tool for the job that no one has mentioned.
Any answers out there ??

no tools required the spigot bearing just unclips and pulls off ull how it works when its apart

txrota: You'll be thinking of the clutch release bearing ('throw-out' bearing) which comes off (still attach to its carrier) quite easily. To get the spigot bearing out, you either need to design a puller of some description, or pack the area behind the spigot bearing with something (some people use grease, some people use water soaked tissues) and then find something which just fits the hole (steel bar, wooden dowel) and hammer it in so that the pressure created by what ever you packed in there pops out the bearing.

There are three things that make bearing noises in the front of a gemini gearbox, the first two (spigot and throwout) are easy to replace, the third is the input shaft bearing inside of the gearbox which is more dificult and in my experience is almost always the source of the most noise (assuming the first two weren't completely clagged).

as for the "throw out bearing" thats peice of piss to change once the gearbox is off the car. The spigot bearing is as easy but not hard either. I filled the back of the bearing up with platicene and got a bolt that just fitted in the hole and tapped it in... easy as
