Heres an easy to do valve body shift kit for the TH180C transmission (trimatic) but i do not reccomend anyone without a decent knowlege of cars to perform this or without the proper tools as you could do more damage than good. This can be done to any Trimatic in 4, 6, and 8cyl cars. I also felt that someone needed to put some decent automatic info on here for all the folk without a manual.
Parts required:
Pan Gasket
Filter
Filter gasket
Updated Kickdown solenoid (if using early model trimatic)
Corvette servo spring
Servo cover gasket
2x Valve body gasket
Dexron III automatic transmission oil
Method:
1) Remove pan and drain oil.
2) Remove filter
3) Remove K/down solenoid from valve body. If replacing unplug wire from top of case, cut solenoid wire and tap plug up through trans case with a hammer and a suitable punch, DO NOT SCORE THE PLUG BORE!!!!!
4) Remove servo cover
5) Remove valvebody bolts in a c/wise direction. NOTE: position of Z link and check balls when you drop the v/body from trans!!!!
6) Clean all removed parts
7) Make sure all of the valves in v/body are free and face it up. It wont need much because trimatic V/bodies are not prone to warpage.
With suitable tool (ie, spring compressor tool 7AT8) remove servo piston assy. and note order. Clean parts and replace spring with corvette spring. Remove cushion spring and reassemble.
9) Drill out 1-2 shift hole in V/body plate with next size drill bit (imperial)
10) Compress acumulator, drill through acumulator and jam closed with a suitable length nut and bolt.
11) Reassemble with new gaskets and in same order as removal.
12) Complete service with a band adjustment. Replace pan with new gasket.
13) Top up trans with oil.
This is all I will give away without letting out any secrets, so get out there and chirp them wheels!!!

Its actually best just to take the acumulator spring out before you jam it. it doesnt matter if you havent because its as easy as unscrewing the new bolt you have just put in.
NOTE: be careful as you could lose an eye if you let the spring shoot out.
Dont forget to put your late model k/down solenoid in and plug in the k/down wire either! |
