ok when I'm heavy on the brakes, the car shudders and pulls to the right, some people reckon it might be a sticky slave cylinder or a warped disc. any input appreciated

If the car pulls considerably it is more likely to be caused by something at the front than the rear.

The cause could be one or more of a number of things. Is the car vibrating/shuddering at all when not braking or does it ONLY happen under brakes?

Causes can be from other sources than brakes so don't eliminate other reasons for the problem. For instance a damaged tyre can be the fault. So can a worn suspension or steering component.

Are all the tyres the same size and brand? Has the car had a wheel alignment in the past few months?

Wheel alignments can make a big dirrerence and aid in pinpointiong front end wear. It is not possible to align a car with excessive play in the steering.
