well this is for gene mainly , but to all to read .. in 1994 i built this engine .. g161z block did not remove the crank used a hone tool on a drill for a cost of $20 , second hand pistons "fly cut" with grinding wheel hehe $1
a new set of federal mogul cast rings $47 & i used the old bearings cos they seemed ok.. other then some die grinding of the oil galleries this was a very basic bottom end
top end was a tx big vavle head i got out of the tradeing post $100 , it had been extensively ported & fitted with escort stainless vavles that had all colapsed in there seats... cost me another $150 to have the seats & vavles redone & there was 120 thou intotall shaved from that head " i had it shaved 40 & it had previously been taken 80".. cam cost a huge $70 & was custom ground to group C specs of 48/93 "regrind" it idled at 2200 started to make power at 6000 & kept makeing power to 9300..
carby was a stocker that had 2L datto jets in it & converted to mechanical secondries..cost was $40
dizzy was converted camira electronic $110
exytractors where h&m 4into 1 , 3inch collector wich reduced to 2in , no center muffler & went into a suzuki accross muffler rite @ the rear .. exhuast was peiced together for about $130..
all up this made a genuine 97kw @ the wheels on blacktown carby speacialist dyno wile being tuned..
this engine was a complete total pig untill about 5500 rpm , allwaze ran hot due to high idle & most importantly only lasted 7 months of driving to & from work peak hr torture ...my point exhuast $130
ignition $110
carb $40
cam $70
head $250
bottom end $70
gaskets $60
totall = $600
this cheapo engine was put together after my piazza turbo had a melt down after 4 months & nearly $3000 to get it on the rd... |

The first thing that stands out to me is the 32/36 weber. Having had a shit load of experience with these on other engines you can't make anymore than around 140hp at the flywheel with these as they are just unable to flow enough air. You end up with a situation where no matter how big a jets you put in it the engine will keep leaning out because you get choked flow in the venturi. I can explain the fluid mechanics behind if you want but suffice to say if you want more than 140hp you need to go to a 38 DGAS carb.
Cheers

haha thats what happens when you give a gemini 97rwkw
But he said it's didn't do much until 5500rpm, Piazza makes good power all through its rev range. |
