I just bought a 1981 TE Gemmy and theres a fair bit of rust in the boot. I was just wonderin if this was common and what people have done to fix it. Also please keep in mind that i am a cheap arse and don't wanna spend a fortune fixin it.
Thanks! |

yes very common
the easiest way to fix it is to remove all the rust treat ti and weld in a new section
or a way my mate did it that was cheep was we stole a street road work sign that fit in the boot painted it black and bolted it with screws over the to major beams and just left all the rusted stuff under neath
and last resort get ti done profesionaly but that cost heaps like $400 + not worth it |

Buy a fibreglass kit, cut out the bad rust, treat the rest with rust kill/convertor stuff, and then glass it up and paint it with tar underbody stuff. Shouldnt cost anymore than $50 and a few hours to do the whole thing, and it will look like a pro job. |

if the rust is only in the floor itself (between the 2 chassis rails), buy yourself a plate from rare spares (look in phone book) for about $50 - $70, cut out the area in the boot floor thats rusted with a grinder or what have you, and buy a mate a carton to weld it in with a mig welder using .9mm wire.
the other option is to take it to a qualified welder and let him do it for his fee. i wouldnt think that he would charge you anymore than $100 do just weld it in |
