|
|
I have just recently fitted my Shortend VN Commodore Diff to BlueTC (well in primer still)
Thanks to to the Aussie Diff Shop in Currumbin QLD they Shortend a VN Borg Warner Diff and MIG welded my Gemini mounting brackets off my 10 bolt diff, (Spring Buckets, Shock and panhard rod mounts,
Cost as follows:
They Supplied VN Borg Warner Diff, no centre or pinion, shorten and MIG weld Gemini mounting brackets on prespectively, and shortend and resplined Axels - $450
4.11 Diff gears from Supplied Pinion and Crown wheel, new bearings and clean diff - $550
New VL Axel Bearings - $90 the pair
Slotted Rear VL Rotors, Suit Commodore - $95
New Bendix Ultimate Brake Pads - $90
Lower control Arm Bushes - $70
Brake Lines - $20 - Thanks Gene!
VR Calipers and VP backing plates with Handbrake Brackets - $100
These prices do not included GST or Labour charges, painting, pizzas and booze, there would have been a cheaper alternative, say got a VP with 3.9's and done the conversion,
I have photos of the install and if you are interested email me on jadow2u@yahoo.com, and i will send you pics,
I will be going a one peice tailshaft, and still need top links as they diff is held by the lower control arms and shocks, or go a four link,
I have kept the 5 stud as i am puttin the Hoppers Stoppers VT front brake kit, which is cheaper if you keep the 5 stud also, and can use commodore wheels in respective width though,
Hope this helps anyone, feel free to question, just want to thank Micheal aka Blupanno/Wagonslut for all ya help mate,
Cheers |

Just to add abit more to this as it may help someone going down this path in the future [as i am].
To save yourself a shitload of cash, DONT buy the pinion and crownwheel from the diff joint as your likely to be very out of pocket. The Borg Warner was a common diff in aus produced cars so theres heaps of different ratios around. Bonus is if you get it from, say Pick a Part/Pick and payless your looking at around 70 bux for the crown wheel and pinion.
Nissan R31 Skyline Manual - 3.77 from memory
Nissan R31 Skyline Auto - 3.89
Nissan R31 Pintara [i think both auto and manual] 4.11
Various Fairlanes/Falcons circa 90-95ish - anywhere from 2.77 to 3:1 to 3.23
VL 6 Turbo, VN-S Manuals - 3.45
VL V8, VN-S autos - 3.08
The gears from the IRS commodores ALSO fit, not sure what ratios VTs were avail in.
