...well... having read through all the messages on oringing im realy intregued, ie. can someone explain what exactly it is? i understand that its some kickass method of preventing head gaskets from blowing, but reading all about the spacing and stainless/copper orings and all the other stuff has got me quite interested.
can someone please explain!!!

Basically, it's so the head and block can 'bite' into the gasket. They machine a groove into the head/block and insert a copper(I think) 'ring' so that it sits proud of the head surface fractionally.
That's right, aint it? |
