Got this message from Mark Hanna (fast4s)
You're not going to believe this,
As I write I have February's cover car being photographed. Guess what it is? A bloody Gemini wagon.
No kidding. This one though has been built for a top 10 placing at Summernats - supercharged, injected Isuzu, hot-rod chassis front end, removable front, suicide doors. The works."
Anyone know of it? Sounds siiick! |

It looks cool, don't know if they serve any practical purpose though, but they look cool! |

There is no practical purpose for them - that's why they're called suicide doors - because it's suicide if you open them when you're on the move (unlike normal doors, which can be just opened and slammed shut again without stopping the car, should they need to be).
But they do look fairly cool.
A Gemini wagon on the cover of Hot 4s? I might even buy that one!!! It'd be the first Hot 4s I've bought in years - I HATE homeboy cars. |

Those suckers that hinge off the rear end of the door rather than the front end of the door. Would make good air brakes if you could engineer them to stay on
Wasn't there a prototype getting around recently with normal doors at the front and suicide doors at the back - pillarless in between? |

From memory the Lincoln that JFK (Not HotGemini JFK was assassinated in was a pillarless convertible with doors as such. I could be wrong.
I do know that the new Mazda RX-8 has a pillarless suicide rear door setup, but the rear doors are much smaller.
I wonder how they will work that, by locking the rear doors once the car is on the move?
Do the back doors only open once the front door is open?
How are the doors latched, centrally or otherwise?
All we need now is some nutter to make a gull-wing door Gemini... |

I beleive the RX-Evolve/RX-8 has small rear suicide doors, designed to make it look like a 2-door. |

I've meet the guy, I've seen the car and let me tell you guys that you all will be blown away with the detail and engineering that has gone into it's build. If you want to know more or who the owner is you will all have to wait and go to Summernats to check it out. |

Very nasty things.. Open the other way than most doors do.
Very appropriately named too.. when I was about 9 years old my old man got called out to an accident (he was an ambulance volunteer). Fair enuff this couple had been arguing when the chick opened the door while the car was moving... and yanked her out at high speed. Hell I was too young back then to know what was happening but it's not often you get up close to a body. |
