i am wondering if anyone can explain tyre sizes,
eg, 175/70R13 i know 175 is the width of the tyre 175mm i know R13 is a 13" rim(however for the life of me i can't figure out where they get the extra inch from) but i have no idea what the /70 means or how to tell a tyres profile/side height from these measuements
can anyone help me

OK tyre basics.
175 is the width of the tyre, usually across the tread, in MM.
The " / " is just a space between numbers.
70 is whats called the aspect ratio. It's the height of the tyre from rim to outside diameter. It's expressed as a percentage of the width, so 70% of 175MM.
"R" means the tyre is a radial tyre.
13 is the diameter of the rim that the tyre will fit. This is measured on the inside lip of the rim where the tyre sits, not the outside of the bead lip.
Hope this helps. |
