try getting boxes and mounting them on angles on the boot

the lines show the booty edges/box edges. the subs go on an angle Smile

My ideal theory of putting subs in a sedan Smile

The only reason to worry about the tank is if you want to put the subs in place of the back seat. Otherwise don't worry.

Correct! Unlike high frequencies which are directional, low frequencies are not. Bass notes from subs you'll hear from anywhere even across the street. So it doesn't matter sound-wise where the sub-boxes are mounted.
These days new subwoffers are getting smaller in terms of the size box they require. Might I suggest if you're handy with tools, a custom box to fit a single 12 or 15 in the drivers side well of the boot with a flat board hiding the fuel tank that you could mount the amp to. Or alternatively you could, with alot more work, custom make a box/boxes that sat in behind the tank, facing two subs, one in each corner, each firing at the opposite corners tailights.
