the sub may have recomeded volumes if its half decent but if not it should at least say whether it performs best in enclosed or vented boxes |

theres more to just cutting a hole. u need to tune the port to the right diamerter and length. use a seald box it will only need to be 1/2 the size of a ported/bandpass enclosure _________________

If you go with a sealed 10" sub, make the box about 1 cubic foot. If it is sealed it will sound good a low to mid volumes and you don't need to go messing around with ports. That's what i did, and i saved myself about $100 over buying one from a place like Jaycar or a car audio shop. |

Mate, it IS actually a bit of a black art. Every sub is different. My 10" VDO Dayton sub runs perfectly in a 28lt sealed box, however the newer models run in a box HALF that! Find out the recommended capacity for the sub you have and be fairly accurate as to the size and sealing of the box, ie; glue AND screw all the joins and when it's dry, run silastic or no more gaps around all the inside joins.
Nothing compares to the satisfaction of doing the job yourself though, Good luck.

As for sizes, the bigger you make a sealed box the 'boomier' tha bass will be, and if you make it smaller the bass will be 'tighter' but yeah consult the manual as
always, and if your building it yourself you can maek it to a shape that'll fit in the boot nicer, and look better.

its not going in the boot, im cuting a hole in my backseat and it will be bolted where the passenger would sit (behind me.) im pretty tall so my seats touch the backseat when i drive and no-one could sit behind me anyway.
Its a pioneer sub, the 10" in this years range. ill just go with the square foot, as long as it thumps i dont really care that much. its not like im gunna go in any comps or anything. |

Hate to disappoint you but it IS an exact science just chucking any sub into a box will more than likely give the same results as the effort. If you want a decent sounding sub you need to find out the optimum enclosure as well as the optimum volume for it meaning that if you use a box that is too large the sub will bottom out and if you make the enclosure to small if will decrease the amount of deep bass reproduction thus defeating the purpose of having one.
The best thing to do is get the brand and serial number of the sub and post it with the original question at
http://www.diysubwoofers.org/talkshop/
These guys will give you all the info you need as well as telling you the reasons why building your own box is a better idea.

there isn't really much room in the gemi boots for a sub anyway is there! unless you made a custome encolure for the sides maybe, its a deep boot though, and not very long or wide |
