I know i know, if its about the 32/36 weber[or whaterver the cortina one is], its already been posted....BUT....
i spoke to a guy in ballarat....Autopro..i think, and asked him bout performance jetting said carby.he said "dont fucking bother, bolt the barstard on and have fun." he then told me to give it heaps, and get a good exhaust{i already did.} but....would it run too rich for a performance carb, or are the 2lr jets good enough? fuel consumption is not a problem, as i have LPG too.has anyone done that, or are they all re-jetted?
any ideas???
thanx,
Rob. |

I Think the jets will work pretty well on a 1600, as far as I know, the jets didn't change at all from 1800 and 2 litre versions of the DGV carb (32/36), so going down to a 1600 should only make it slightly rich whilst cruising.
Rejetting is not anything major, it would simply consist of removing the 140 main jet and putting in a 135 or something of that nature. Speaking of which, a jet change of that magnitude would probably only change an a/f ratio by less than 1/2 a point, ie from 14.5:1 to 14:1. No big change, and you might use an extra 4-5 dollars of fuel per tank full than you otherwise would.
Basically, dont stress, but then again, if you are concerned, you will never really know unless you stick an oxy sensor on it and measure the a/f ratio, which will cost money anyway.
PS do you live in Ballarat?

Hi Ben,
I am having a sh!t of a time with my 32/36. When I purchased it the settings were:
145/150 primary/secondary, with 185/165 correctors.
It was using too much fuel and felt like it was bogging down a bit so I played with the jets. I went from 145/150 to 125/145 and worked my way up to now have 140/150.
The only problem is it is still waaaay fluffy on partial throttle and has a gaping hole in the midrange which severely affects driveability and acceleration. She just feels flat until the secondary opens and even then it is like the momentum isn't there because of the lack of midrange. She doesn't pull up hills unless secondary is open, just falls flat.
She has Genie extractors, shaved TX head, mild cam and electronic ignition, so breathing and firing shouldn't be a problem. All this was done a couple of weeks ago.
Any ideas what could be going on here?
Thanx |

Yeah I live here, and I also sometimes check out the go fast bits, but try to stay away these days as I am sick of spending money on stuff that doesn't make me go any faster.
I go to specialist joints now.

From what you describe, you are running the primary circuit too lean. The size of you primary air corrector jet also backs this up. The factory size is 175 or something like that, and you have a standard main jet, so I guess you are a 'little bit lean'. I would actually make the air corrector a bit smaller, maybe a 160, use a 145 main jet, and make the idle jet a little larger.
If this doesn't solve your lack of power using the promary circuit, then it may be your accelerator pump squirting too much or too little. This will cause bogginess as you open the throttle, as it is either going way to rich or too lean over a relatively short period of time.
I think the standard pump squirter orifice is a 50, and only the primary side is drilled. The pump itself cant really be modified, but the cam could be, although its unlikely.

Hey Rob,
I forgot to post on this one, I can tune your weber as I have had several of them and I also stock jets to suit, I've fitted em to Gem's and Datto's stock to hot 2ltr's, also have worked with LPG so I can help you sort that out too,
From memory the standard 2ltr corty 32/36 is a bit lean at first progression, as the corty was set up for economy.
may be this sunday,
also make sure your weber has a idle adjustment screw in the base, as some of the latter models the idle was pre set and does not suit Gem's,
Cheers

Yeah, i had a similiar problem (bogged down just before the secondaries opened), fixed it by mucking round with the air corrector, now she's smooth all the way through. Can remember what size jets/ correctors im running but i can check if you want.

The factory points dizzy is pretty good, what wrong with that option? Unless you are not happy with the ignition curve, then you have to change springs and weld/machine the advance slot. There are heaps of joints around, try the yello pages, ICE do a good job, although I do all my own work.
I dont know why people lean so much towards electronic dizzys, if you are not suffering ignition problems, eliminating points and increasing coil voltage and ultimately plug gap will reap very minimal rewards. Thats money that could be better spent elsewhere for neddies.
