whats the best way to get hail sized dents... (well... golf ball sized would be mre accurate) out of the roof of my car?

can i just take ou the roof lining and have a go with a mallet as smooth as possible?

Or use the dent puller (they dont seem big enough to warrant the use of one of them)

im goinna paint it anyway so i dont care if it wrecks the paint.

any tips etc would be great

May as well try to beat it out with a rubber mallet

no no no no!!!!! dont try to knock them out youll only fuk it and stretch the metal if your taking the roof lining out heat shrink the dents if your not taking the roof lining out use a special two pak putty that they use to fill nicks and scratches as its is very easy to rub down not like bog if you need the name of it ill see if I can get it on tuesday for you

IT will have to be filled to get it looking new again. IF the indents arent deep, just fill with bog. Putty is used for filling very shallow nicks, not for dents. Id grind back each dent to bare metal so the bog has something to grip on, and fill. You use spray putty for the final finish to remove very fine nicks and scratches left by the sanding of the bog. Then primer, then colour.

The roof is going to flop up and down a lot because of its construction, so its going to be hard slog to do it by hand. ITs really the domain of a panel beater, Im afraid, if you want a good job done.

the bonnet and boot aren't much of a problem.. just replace.

the roof is a different story and a body transplant is pretty much out of the question...

(anyone ever changed a roof?)

Its called 2K putty filler by spieces heker and was bought out back when that bad hail stone damage storm we and a few other states had... Its not the one your thinking of GEMINI KING that keeps on shrinking for the next 20 years when the weather gets hot then cold even in nicks and scratches.. and Ill stand by the procuct there is no srinkage just talk to a paint supplies place theyll lead you in the right direction dont use bog its to harsh for a boucing panel and all youll end up with is bog rings..

Metal has a memory to a certain point where if you add a little heat to the outer or middle of the dent the metal starts to pull and what youll see is the dent start to moveor rebound and the metal goes back to its axcisting memory it takes practice once your satisfied with the outcome you can either metal finish or use the 2k filler putty to finish off..
but really its not hard always keep water on hand to cool the panel off as soon as heat is removed it doesnt take alot of heat just run the flame over the dent in a circular
motion..

But don't heat up more than about the size of a 10c piece at a time.
And when you cool the panel quickly, you actually shrink the metal slightly, which helps flatten the dent.
