The leads will go round the dizzy in a anti clockwise direction, ie
4
2 3
1
The easiest way to know where to put lead no 1 is to remove the first spark plug, stick your thumb over the hole and crank the engine over by hand (using the fan) untill you feel compression under your finger, this is the compression stroke, stop when the timing marks on the crank pulley and the manifold line up. Now look in the dizzy and make the terminal closest to the rotor arm Lead 1.
Hope this helps and its not too incoherent, if you need more help post again or look in the workshop, neals got an article on timing in there.
