|
|
i got 6 inchers in my doors, and as wit all gems, there is water always runin down the inside of the doors. so i decide to do somethin bout it, and the first thing that comes to mind is to tape the shit out of the back of the speaker, so that woteva water may happen to drip onto them, it will simply run down the side, and out the bottom of the door
but now i got no fucken bass, i have no subs, only 4 6" 2ways (1 in each door). running 50W each. the bass is gay, well, there isn't any. i can tell the spkr is trying the make some phat beats, but it just ain't workin.
back to my point, any ideas on what to do to cover the speaker so if any water happens to fall on them, it will drip off?
is there anything on the market that clips on for example or some shit like that?
thanx. chris. |

How about.....you replace your frieken doors seals so that it doesnt happpen in future. Forget new speakers, or speaker drip covers until you fix it, or itll just hapen again.
OR
wind you window up.......ha!
forget the cheap bandaid job, fix it first time |

True they are pretty dear, maybe you cant afford it now, but seriously think about replacing them as soon as you can. It would be a shame to lose quality speakers to water down the track. You shouldnt be getting that much water dripping in, i doubt seriously gems came from the factory leaking water!
the other alternative is to build an independant housing for each unit. Build the speakers from the door using a custom pod, then build a totally sealed box from perhaps marine ply. This will alter the sound your speakers produce however, but will keep each unit dry
just a few things to think about........good luck |

Speakers in the door of a Gem is a no no. Water will get in there whether all your seals are new or not. Wot do you think the drain holes in the bottom of the door are for?
Speakers should go in an area free from moisture. |

my gemi came with a clarion sound sytem from the factory and behind the speaker is what looks like a little plastic bowl that fits perfectly over the back of them. When i took them out to put big mumma clarion 6 inch splits in there i just used those. it isnt that hard to stop the water getting in, you can even just get some of that really thick builders/painters drop sheet plastic and hold it against the door and push the speaker into place letting the plastic shape around it. hell yes it will make the speakers sound different but to get really good midbass you have to use friggin pods anyway so using some plastic beats buying new 6inch speakers of decent quality. |

Speakers have been put into dorrs for ages and manufacterers still do....
Most new cars use whats like a 1/2 bowl shaped plastic shiel. It only covers the top half of the speaker and doesnt therefore alter the sound. Water wont be coming from below the speaker only drip from above. Use heatshrink on ur soldered connections and it'll be a ok. |
