painted engine block

i've got the block stripped and while i'm waitin for
parts i want to paint it

how should i do this ? killrust primer then black
spray or just tyre black or sumfin else?

. no shit ive done mine in that and looks good. and no it doesnt heat up and fuck up the paint

yeah it does heat up and bubble the pain.
tyre black?? WTF?
go to auto barn and grab some engin enamel in a can, can handel up to 600 degeers in temp, thats what i used on mine and it hasent bubbels or lifted and where, just give it a good clean and spry, if u useing an under coat make sure its a heat proof one as well.chris

if you want a good looking paint job use vht engine enamel. it comes in all different colours and looks a treat. costs around $15

oh and dont use rustkill the shit bubbles when u put another paint over it.

Prep is everything. If u wanna get crazy debur the block with a die grinder like i did, high fill prime it and rub it down.

Before priming (not really all that necessary if you're intending to use the vht enamel) scour the block and all other cast iron compnentry - alternator bracket, gearbox braces etc etc. Use a green scourer with prepsol (aka wax a grease remover) - not petrol or turps. they leave an oily film.

then u're set.

I couldn't agree more, the longevity of engine enamels always seems to come down to preparation and curing time, if you clean the block (degreaser etc.) then give it a good scrub with prepsol, make sure nothing gets spilt on it until it has been through a few heat cycles, it should be just about (but not quite) inpenetrable.

sand blast it then $2.50 paint simple. thats what happend to mine and it looks good. the paint doesnt heat up and crack becasuse it doesnt get that hot down there.

i reckon its preped enough i scrubbed it with petrol then degreased it then spry it with a pressure cleaner till it was shiny metal then let it dry and wiped oil on the bores so they won't rust i reckon i'll use enamel

also a pressure cleaner does a bloody good job of
cleanin out water pasages
