how many amps will kill you?

i am thinking about anodising some stuff but the ony problem is the amount of amps required. how many amps does it take to kill you?

voltage is what kills
amps = current
12 volt car battery is cabpable of delivering 400amps
(for a short period).
if you put your hand across a car battery it wont kill you
where as 400 volts at 1 amp (such as electronic ignition)
would stop the heart .
it all depends on the voltage

Voltage is not what kills you, the current does. Just because a car battery can deliver 400amps or more doesnt mean it does so when you put your hands across it. The human body has a high resistance and a 12 volts (provided by the car battery) is not enough to push 400 amps through you.

amps is what does the dammage....
amperage is the speed the current travels at right? and the higher this number the more it hurts!

Amperage is the size of the current and voltage is the push that moves the current

talking about killing yaself. hot4s had a artical about 6months back saying 135db+ can grab ya heart beat and slow it down with the beat of the music. low enuff and slow enuff music and it will give you a nice heart attack Smile

most people no the danger of high voltage but most people don’t understand that amperage is what actually kills. Static electricity can generate high voltages (25,000 volts or more) but it happens at a very low amperage, it won’t kill you but it will get your attention. A 220 volt circuit in your home powered by a 60 amp circuit breaker can kill you.

Here is a list of currents and their effect on humans

0.4mA Slight sensation
1.8mA Shock no pain
9.0mA Painful shock
23.0mA Sevire painful shock with breathing difficulties
235.omA Usually fatle for a duration of 5sec. or more
4000.0mA Will give you heart poralisis
5000.0mA Will do the same as above with tissue burn

20mA can kill a sick, elderly or young person and if your fit, healthy etc 30mA can kill you. All depends on the path the current takes through you

firstly, u need to complete the circuit to get zapped. voltage will not kill a person at all, it will give u a fright thought. Current is the bit that can kill u, 40 millivolts is enough from your normal everyday household socket outlet, thats 0.040 VOLTS!!!!!! current = amperage
