Is there anybody i can talk to who has done the conversion themselves? 3.8 L... I don't want to know that you saw one at summernats. I don't wanna know about the rod shop. I dont wanna know what you think. I don't want to know that it costs 11000 to get it done(fairly good price I admit) I want to know details, problems encountered, other upgrades that WERE done at the same time, Engeneering difficulties, Insurance issues. I want information regarding the v6 upgrade only.

Thank you. |Razz|

When i build my gem with the 350 chev in it no one had done it like i wanted to do it, its called bite the bullet and just do it, when you come accross a problem then solve it, its not hard mate, and as far as engineering do what i did ring one up and ask first ....

cheers

Bloody hell.... shit mate its not some big conspiracy... * ohhhh lets not tell sobil how to do then when we all do it he will be left out.... * obviously no-one on here has done it..CALL the rod shop... CALL V6 conversions.... CALL an engineer.... if in vic come to the easter nats and ask people ho they did it..... do some of the reasearch yourself rather than expect everyone to give you there info...

Use some initiative!!!

Good luck, love to see it when its done.

COMMODORE V6 3.8LTR EFI ENGINE
INTO
HOLDEN GEMINI .
V6 Conversions have developed a conversion kit that allows the instillation of the Holden Commodore V6 3.8ltr EFI to the above vehicle from VN to VX, the kit is designed to replace the original 4 cylinder motor & gearbox. The kit is designed to take the T700 or T5 gearbox.
To comply with Australian emission laws the engine must have been manufactured the same year or later than the vehicle. The engine must also have all of the emission components connected, including the catalytic converter. The engine must also be run on unleaded fuel or LPG.
In Australia an Engineers report is required after the conversion has been completed. Contact your local RTA office for a list of Engineers
CONVERSION INFORMATION
This is a very simple conversion with only a slight modification to power buster mounting bracket area to obtain clearance for the cylinder head.
Our engine mount brackets utilise the original engine mount rubbers and our gearbox crossmember is a bolt in using the VN gearbox rubber mount.
You will need to obtain the following components -
* The Commodore V6 engine complete with the main engine wiring harness, the ECM computer and memcal. Other accessories such as the map sensor, purge canister, air cleaner & ducting, airconditioning compressor & catalytic converter, external fuel pump & damper.The Series One engines have two crankshaft bolt patterns and starter motor types, the manual transmission type and the automatic transmission type. For this reason they are not interchangeable.
However, Series Two and later engines have the same crankshaft so they can be converted from automatic to manual by fitting a flywheel and changing the memcal.
This only applies to VN and VP engines, VR and later engines have different computers and wiring looms for automatic and manual.
You can leave your original fuel tank in place by using an external EFI fuel pump and modifying the filler neck by way of a return line and restrictor so that it will only accept an UNLEADED nozzle or you can fit a complete fuel tank from the VN Commodore.
The V6 motor does not have an engine driven fan, you can use your original radiator and fit the fan and cowling from the VR - VT or a 16" Davies Craig or similar.
The wiring kit we have available covers from the VN - VX it comes in 2 parts, the under bonnet loom with all the relays and fuses and the under dash loom which incorporates an engine trouble light. The wiring kit plugs into the V6 engine and gearbox loom leaving only 6 wires to be tapped into your vehicles original loom, which are - alternator light, oil light, temp light or gauge, ignition, starter & tacho.
Our speedo kit comes in 2 forms, an in line speed sensor that fits the T700 or T5 and cable to suit VN - VP, or an electronic speedo for VR - VX instillations.
KIT CONTENTS.
* sump & oil pickup
* dipstick tube
* engine mounts, brackets & bolts
* gearbox crossmember
* speedo kit
* wiring kit
* a set of instructions
Kit price - $1,300.00 this includes GST & freight.
EFI fuel pump - $200.00
16" thermo fan - $200.00
Idler kit VN - VR - $150.00
" " VS - VT - $175.00 this is to be used if not running power steering.
Body Control Simulator VR-VS - $300.00
Body Control Simulator VT-VX - $400.00

They keep mentioning a 16" thermo fan to fit the original gemini radiator, where the hell are they going to fit that??

You're lucky to squeeze in a 12" fan.
