2.6 rodeo motor and 5 speed gearbox $395
that sounds like a pretty good price 2 me!
what mods need 2 be done 2 put this in a gem?
and any one know the KW and HP these things produce?

AFAIK, the 2.6 4ZE1 was only produced in EFI equipped form, it had 88KW (118HP) and enough torque when put into a Gem to pull a thousand screaming teeny boppers off Ricky Martin.
$395 for da motor & box is pretty damn good, but 4 dat price i would assume it has no computer or loom, and possibly no intake or exhaust manifold - but i have been surprised B4.
Mods are reasonably minimal 2 slot it into da Gem, biggest hurdle is da dizzy hitting the firewall - but i have read countless times that fitting a Shuttle dizzy can overcome this. If you're on a budget, i would go about seeing if da 4ZD1 induction system bolts on to run a carb. If not, then let the fuel injection rip, changing to EFI based fuel system will be necessary eg; lines, pump, computer etc.
Have a look in da workshop about how 2 instal a 4ZD1, it should be almost identical for the 2.6.
