Hey I got my engine, 5 spd, springs, shock and fuel pump into my new TG on the w/e but now the Temp gauge doesnt work and the fuel gauge doesnt work. I checked the wires. The engine I put into the TG is out of my TE but I didnt think that would make any difference. Anyone got any ideas?
cheers - Josh |

yes a typical problem when u remove the dash cluster, i removed my dash and i didn't have a fuel guage, after months of pulling it out 2 or 3 times a week, it now works, but my temp guage has died, best off takin it to an auto elec, and getting them to check the wiring, also the guage itself could be dead, all u have to do it remove the cluster unbolt the back and remove the guage, then put the new one in.
fun fun

Hey Josh,
I did the exact same thing, Put a TE engine into a TG.
Did u also swap the Fuel tanks over, I had to because there was no fuel pump in the TG fuel tank. TG's have the pump under the bonnet
Note: If u swap fuel tanks, U need to swap or rewire the wire loom in the boot. U need to power the pump and a feed from the sensor.
I notice the Fuel gauge needle goes crazy when i drive (up and down very quikly), I think i should have swaped the sensor back into the tank for a smooth readout.
As for the temp gauge , I noticed I had the wires were around the wrong way.
?? Does your oil pressor gauge work (if u have one?) as i had these around the wrong way.
Cheers. Let me know about the fuel tank. did u need to do a mod??? |

Hey
Na I just spent another hour trying to fix it. Both the fuel and temp gauges are just fucked...
As for the electric fuel pump, I just wired it up to the coil for now. I took the fuel pump relay out of the TE but i'm not gonna fuck around with too many things at once otherwise if it doesnt start i wont know whats wrong...
Is it worth just getting an autometer water temp gauge and be done with it? I still need an accurate fuel gauge but
fucking dodgy TG dash's i'd put my TE one in if it fitted
:/

mmmm...
It seems your in all sorts with these gauges.
My advantage is i am a Electronic/Computer Tech, and it still took me about 2 hours too sort all that shit out.
(I hate working on elecronics in cars)
Maybe your best bet is an Auto Elec, Autometer gauges r shit hot but cost a bit. Check out both solutions, If autometer gauges cost the same then go for it.
As for swaping the dash, I like the TG dash better. But I don't c why it can't be done.
All gem gauges r made by VDO. |
