Can the gemmi 5 speed box take the extra horses from a piazza 2 litre turbo? I've heard some people say it wont. Am I going to drop the clutch next year and bust the box?? |

It might go tomorrow it might last 10 years but I dare say it will handle that little more horse power the piazza will throw at it if a gemmi 4 speed can handle 1 or more meetings behind dennis mobs 600hp motor before he started spending money on beefing it up to handle the neddies |

You can get good and bad with gemini gearboxes. I run consistant 11 second quarters with my nitros gemini, running through a standard 5 speed. I leave the line on a 6200rpm rev limiter through a brass button clutch, and in 12 months ive blown 3 gearboxes.
I know the chiptorque gemini from the gold coast which runs 10.2 on the quarter goes through about 10 boxes a year.
But, i also have a 13 second turbo panel van, and I am yet to break a gearbox. Either that box is exceptionally strong, or theyll take a certain amount of power. As long as your not planning on trying to do 10 second quarters im sure itll hold up for a lot longer than you think. |

Just curious, do people use the standard rear end, or piazza rear ends in those high horsepower drag cars?
Also do any of u experts know if an easier (cheaper) way of getting as LSD is to have the internals of a piazza rear end put in a standard rear end? is this possible? |

My drag coupe still runs the standard diff, but I have a minispool centre. I got one made from alloy and fitted through my local diff lappers. CIG lockers work ok for burnouts but wont hold up to drag standards. I break axles everynow and then ( ie 2 a year ) but thats about it.
I run piazza rear discs on my car. As long as you get the backing plate and caliper mount it all bolts straight on, and you have to remove the proportioning valve and use a piazza one.
If you were to fit a piazza centre to a gemini housing how would the torque tube work? I assume you have to use the whole diff, but it is about 3 inches wider, and the panhard bar mounts from the other side. Also have to modify trailing arms and get a custom tailshaft. Alot of work! |
